R6 REVIEW: CATS ON TOP AS 'MAYOR' BOOTS 9

BROADBEACH continue our undefeated start to the 2021 QAFL season with a 54 point victory over Wilston Grange on their home turf. Conditions were perfect and it was the Gorillas who jumped the Cats to kick the first 4 goals of the match before MONCRIEFF kicked our first 2 goals. Wilston Grange interestingly bought a very physical game style and at times over stepped the mark which saw Jackson FISHER handed a double goal to get the Cats back to 4 goals a piece late in the first QTR. From there the opponents began to tire and the CATS just grinded out the goals to have a comfortable lead at all breaks.

It was happy days up front for the MAYOR MONCRIEFF who booted 9 goals in a stellar effort in the attacking half of the ground. Jordan copped a big knock early off the ball but recovered and earnt all 9 of his goals in a best on ground performance. Captain Josh SEARL and vice-captain Liam NELSON were ever consistent off the half back line. Reigning Best and Fairest Max LOWER was the contested bull in the centre and was well supported again by teenager Ryan PICKERING in the ruck. Was great to see Nick BURTON back to his best kicking 3 goals as a small forward and recruit Lucas JELLYMAN-TURNER impressed again with another solid outing for the Cats. Craig O'Brien was very pleased after the game to come away with the 4 points after our 3rd game up the M1 in the space of only 4 weeks. O'Brien stressed with the players to keep their discipline and recover well as we play Mt Gravatt at home this weekend before our first bye.

The reserves returned to the winners list after a 66 point victory. Big man Duran RAMAN booted 6 goals and was well assisted by Matt LITTLE and Cody GRANT with 2 goals each in their return games from injury. Daniel GROSE was best on ground for the reserves and will again push his case for senior return. Jonah SEMMLER and Brayden TAYLOR will again be knocking on the door of senior selection after impressive performances again in the midfield. The COLTS went down by just 4 points in a close game. After a missed set shot with 30 seconds to go, it just wasn't to be for our improving colts team. Cooper PARKES and Harry TONKS kicked 3 goals each and Jack BOWEN was very good for the colts. Harry MARSHAM was terrific again, dominating his position on the ground before unfortunately a shoulder dislocation in the last QTR ended his day. We wish Harry a speedy recovery!
