Simon's namesake (1997-2003) played 99 games for Broadie and was selected in the back pocket in the Team of the Decade. Didn't get to see that version but reckon current Simon Russell might end up in the next Team of the Decade.
Simmo (2009) came to us from the Moroopna Cats, Victoria, where he was rated by his coach as a standout youngster. Put in 30 games and picked up the under 18s B&F. At that stage he was a running back/winger and true to form played a handful of games with the Murray Bushrangers including the TAC Grand Final in 2007. Zillmere were chasing Simon, but with their demise, Broadie stepped up and to date he has knocked up possessions in the pivot. Third in B&F in his debut season and awarded Most Consistent, he followed up with eighth in 2010.Looking the goods in pre-season he ran a creditable 10.21 in the 3 click time trial.
Simmo is a quiet silent type not likely to lose us sponsors, and a face to please every mother. He also sticks it in the way of the opposition and appears to cop one every game. The only things that scares him is Squid on a Saturday night and a Foxy tabata drill. A ball getter and stopagge specialist in the mold of a Jude Bolton, and efficient user of the nut, we're hoping he will be around for a while. Unfortunately, in the face of limited opportunities for games in the seniors after coming back from injury he returned to Shp mid-season.
Still looking for a partner, but limiting the search to convents while he plays with his favorite thing,....... his phone. A popular player amongst the group, Simmo is happy on the coast reading picture books and eating deep fried Ox penis, but his plums are missing recovery sessions in the Goulburn River on a Sunday morning.
