Benji is a convert to our game having played First XVI rugger at TSS until year 12 when he had a 'road to Surfers' experience and switched codes. We believe his father being President of Surfers may have had some influence on the decision, indeed some say he sent the epiphany.
He played 5 games for Surfers in 2013 and in the same season racked up 7 games for the SUNs in the NEAFL.
In 2014 he spent a year in Melbourne at Port Melbourne and played 2 games in their development team (where he met Ryan Pantic, no doubt Pants got in his ear about Broady) before transferring to East Malvern in the Southern League where he played 16 in the Ones for a return of 22 goals. He buttered up at East Malvern in 2015 when he played 17 for 17 goals and finished runner-up in the B&F. As coincidence would have it, there he ran into ex Broady skipper Matt Fife. And an article in the Sun Herald on the opening round of that season reported that "The experience of former Broadbeach (Queensland) skipper Matt Fife was also evident and ... The lively Benji Neal was also in the action for the winners with four goals of his own."
A nuggety forward-cum-rover type, he has a nose for a sausage roll or two and in an intra club practice game wound up with 6 from both sides, deep in the pockets and one well out. Could be more than handy our Benji.
Benji is an undergraduate at Griffiths doing a Business/Commerce degree and works part time playing with accounting software. He has gone soft on China recently but firm on Chocolate which means Brazil should look out.
Benji has 4 little brothers and no little girlfriend.
Welcome to Broady
