Adam is a welcome "recruit" for 2015. He was recruited to Broady from Sydney Uni as a NEAFL player in 2013 and big things were expected given his outstanding junior and senior track record in NSW/ACT fooballing circles. Unfortunately the physiotherapist 'did a knee' and was unable to showcase his talent for the best part of the season. That which we were witness to was impressive to say the least.
A midfielder with rare inside and outside skills, he is one of those ball trappers and magnets that dominate engine rooms. Assumming a successful recovery - self treated? - his experience and mature body will be an asset in our quest for the holy grail in 2015.
Adam's histry can be traced to an under 14 B&F in 2001 at the Western Kangaroos somewhere in the wilds of NSW. In In 2004 he played in the NSW/ACT RAMS for the first time. And, this is the big news, represented the Sydney Swans ressies in the same year. Adam enjoyed rarified air winning consecutive B&Fs 2007-09. In 2008 he was third - 3 votes off the pace - in the prestigious Phelan Medallist wearing a Wollongong jumper. In 2008-09 Adam gained selection in the Sydney AFL team of the year as a ruck rover (modern day players will have no idea what that is, think of it as a Luke Parker role).
In 2010 Adam joined Sydney University, one presumes to further his studies. A report from that year record: " Adam McConnochie, our new recruit from Wollongong, has been sensational for us. He still fits the young but reasonably experienced mould, being in the rep team for the past few years but just 22 or 23 years of age... Adam picked up the Senior Grade Tim Driscoll Best & Fairest Trophy with 41 votes from Phelan Medallist Alex Lee. " McConnochie has been a sensational contributor to the club and a popular choice as Player’s Player also." Additionally he was an AFL scholarship recipient for that year.
Such was his success at SU Adam was appointed as co-captain in in SU's inaugural 2012 NEAFL season. Thei documents records the following: "McConnochie’s football resume is as equally impressive. Having spent a significant period of his football life with Wollongong (now Illawarra) AFC, McConnochie was captain of the Illawarra Club in 2008 and 2009. McConnochie joined SUANFC in 2010 taking out the Club’s Best and Fairest in his first year at the Club, following on from consecutive Club Best and Fairest awards at Illawarra from 2007-2009. As well as being awarded a University Blue for his achievements representing Sydney University in Australian Football, McConnochie was selected in representative sides in five of the six years between 2006 and 2011."
Resumed in 2015 after a year off with a 'knee', Adam knocked up another 12 in classy style of high possession footy that gained him 55 votes and third in the B&F. Failed at tipping and then got married. Go figure
