A country cousin from the wheat belt in WA, Dan has had stints with Perth and East Fremantle in his footy travels, incurring the wrath of the tribunal for a total of 7 week, and classes his collection of jumpers as his most treasured possession. He was a prominent junior as suggested in the following:
"YOUNG Gosnells forward Daniel Billson isn't going to forget Sunday 17, June 2007 in a hurry. He began the day by kicking nine goals in the colts in his team's big win over Nollamara. That haul took Billson's total in the colts to 50 for the season.
He could have been excused for sitting back and basking in glory in the afternoon but instead Billson lined up for the league team for the Hawks and booted seven goals against Kelmscott.
Gosnells coach Brian Lester said the club had taken its time with the bulky youngster who recently underwent a knee reconstruction that kept him out of football.
"It was good player management." Lester said, "we played him in the colts to get his confidence and then he spoke to me and said he was happy to have a go at league. He kicked five in the league team last week and of course this week he played colts and league."
Billson has scored 12 goals in his two league games and Lester said his value was even greater. "He gives us a good target after we'd lost a bit of direction in the forward line."
Further, in July 2008, a footy forum observation noted “Anyone catch that young 19 year old forward playing for Perth? he played for Gosnells last year and kicked over 100 goals for their reserves and kicked 20 odd for the seniors when he played there. Looked very good, good …”
Dan was picked up by East Freo in 2010 (Woewodin liked “…the look of Billson up forward”) but he chose to go back to the Wheatbelt at the Koorda Football Club where he had bags of 10 and celebrated a mere one-point margin to take home the year’s Central Wheatbelt Football League premiership which he reckons is the best feeling he has ever had.
Cleared again to the WAFL in 2011, but all we can find is reference to games at Manningham in A Grade Amateurs.
A hospitality worker - a Barista of sorts - Dan is impressed with club commitment and the blokes themselves. Looking forward to retirement and seeing the world after mapping each of the Coast's beaches and staying away from girls with beautiful eyes.
Do not lend him your dog if you want it back!
Dan knocked up a couple in the first two rounds but injury hindered opportunities and he spent most of the time in the twos to be our leading goal kicker for the season with 19 in 6 games. A pity he couldn't hang around to take his place in the premiership side.
